Maggie Valley offered some of the best riding and scenery found anywhere. Most everyone arrived on Monday afternoon and that evening enjoyed hamburgers and hotdogs poolside at the Tiki Bar. Todd spoke to everyone and laid out the plans for the week.
Trip then said a few words, thanking everyone for coming. Everyone enjoyed having a few drinks while listening to some music and meeting other members. Kawasaki brought their demo bikes and many took rides on the new Kawasaki's over the next few days.
Tuesday: Two different rides were offered. About 50 riders met in the front parking lot for a ride across the Blue Ridge Parkway and on to Mount Mitchell State Park. Mount Mitchell is the highest point in the U.S. east of the Mississippi. We made a stop at MR Cycles, the Kawasaki dealership in Asheville, NC. where a lunch sponsored by ROK was ready for us. That many bikes together was an impressive sight.
Wednesday: There were no planned rides for Wednesday leaving time for everyone to explore the area. The demo bikes were getting plenty of attention as many signed up for rides that were planned from 9:00 until 4:00. There was also a swap meet from 9:00 until noon. Some went to Gatlinburg, while others went to the nearby Great Smoky Mountain National Park or headed out riding any direction. The area offered great roads and plenty to do and see.
Later in the afternoon a big thunderstorm rolled thru knocking down trees and making those out on their bikes look for shelter.
The storm passed in a few hours and everyone made it back to the Maggie Valley Inn.
Thursday: Two more group rides were planned, another ride to Deals Gap for those who didn't go on Tuesday and The Waterfalls ride.
Several waterfalls are on highway 28 and they made for great stopping points and photo opportunities.
Later that evening the Finale dinner was held at The Lodge at Camp New Life where Fat Buddies Ribs and BBQ catered a dinner of pulled pork, chicken, beans and cole slaw. Trip spoke for a few minutes and we held our raffle. "CoachA" won the big prize of the evening, a fairing donared by Reckless. Several prizes were also given out, including a copper Nomad plaque that Mitch "Cajunrider" Brignac had made. It was presented to Dick "dkdixie" Campbell for being the oldest member at the rally. The NorthCentral Group had a nice plaque made and presented it to Trip.
Friday: It was time to head for home.
The 2nd KawaNOW National rally had come to a close, it was a great time thanks to Trip, Todd and Amy's hard work and planning.
